U.S. Workers & Training to Narrow Skills Gap, Genesis10 CEO Harley Lippman Tells Proactive Investors

Written by Harley Lippman | August 24, 2018

Recognizing a need for workers skilled at Java and Python, programming languages that support emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, companies are turning to Genesis10 for its new Dev10 Software Developer Training program, CEO Harley Lippman said in an interview with Proactive Investors.

“More and more companies recognize they need newly trained workers,” he said. “Our Dev10 program, which offers recent college graduates highly specialized training, is really growing.”

During the interview, Lippman discussed the risks of sending work offshore, explaining that miscommunication often leads to costly rework. He also pointed out that financial services firms, which are in a highly regulated industry, have additional cybersecurity risks. Worker turnover, which has a big impact on productivity, is yet another issue companies need to consider when looking at offshoring.

“American workers are more productive,” he said and dispelled the myth that offshoring is cheaper than hiring workers in the U.S., by explaining that labor rates, while cheaper in India, for instance, are only one factor in the equation.

Lippman also described benefits of domestic outsourcing or onshoring. “A typical company may have access only to a fraction of 1% of all the Java developers in the U.S.,” he said. “Genesis10 can expose them to 20% or 30% because we have locations throughout the U.S., giving companies a deeper pool of IT talent and more experience. Onshoring speaks to diversifying their workforce. It does so many good things for them.”
