Over the past 18 months or so, our Dev10 recruiting team has been blogging on topics of interest to our readers who are embarking on careers as Software Developers. We are blogging on the interview process, successfully navigating work styles in the office and the joys of lifelong learning, and we are hearing from many of you. Thank you for following our blog and sharing your comments! Now, we are going to pause and take time in this post to respond to your questions about our Dev10 Software Developer training program:
When was the Dev10 Program created?
Genesis10 launched our first Dev10 pilot cohort in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 9, 2018, which means our one-year anniversary is coming up!
How has the Dev10 Program grown the past year?
Since our first pilot cohort, we’ve started four additional cohorts in Dallas, Charlotte and Minneapolis and are actively recruiting for two more in Dallas and Minneapolis.
Who is your target audience?
Dev10’s focus is to create a new pool of software developers by targeting individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field or non-STEM degree with a technical background. Specifically, we are looking for college graduates who wouldn’t have the opportunity to pursue a software developer position without additional education or training.
Do you only target recent college graduates?
No. We see about 50/50 new grads and people who have some experience, but are looking to transition their career to software developer.
How long does it take to complete the application process?
We have a five-step application process that you will need to complete. You, as a candidate, determine how quickly you move through that process. Steps are pass/fail and you move through them as you pass.
We begin with a 1) Phone Interview, move onto an 2) Online Aptitude Test, then schedule a 3) Behavioral Style Interview. Next is 4) Web Development Course and Final Projects and you have two weeks to complete this portion. We can select two weeks that make sense with your schedule as long as it is completed by the final step in our process which is a 5) Group In Person Interview. This is the only set date of our process as we hand out offers at least two weeks prior to the cohort start date. The speed at which we need to move depends on when we start the process.
Can I complete training online?
Our training is successful because we require you to be in class every day. We have a very hands-on approach and being in a classroom 40 hours/ week holds you accountable, challenges you and supports your growth.
Would I need to relocate for training or after training?
Once we identify which cohort you are interested in pursuing, that is where training and any client placements will be located. For example, in Minnesota our training is held in Minneapolis and any client placement would be within the Twin Cities Metro area.
Can I fail out of training?
While it is possible, it hasn't happened yet. All 61 people who went through the training to date--100%--have graduated. We thoroughly vet your skills and potential prior to extending an offer which we believe supports our graduation rate. Also, we have weekly code reviews during training to ensure you are staying on track.
We hope this was helpful! Let us know if you have more questions, by completing the comments section below. We are happy to take the time to respond so you have a clear understanding of what our Dev10 program is all about.
